for visiting the Methodist English High School Alumni (
MEHSA) gathering spot in cyberspace!! Now that we can all get
together without having to fight the airline traffic or bus/rail terminals,
I hope you will help us make this website a “fun” place to visit !!
This effort has been long overdue, but I guess with the passage of time, we have gained a lot more Internet users who can now log in and check out this facility!! Alas, we have yet been unable to get our favorite school principal, Mrs. Logie, on board, but she is very well aware of our accomplishments so far, and is just as excited as I am about this latest attempt to get the alumni together.
To give you a little background, some ten years ago, Mrs. Doreen A. Logie, our principal, envisioned some sort of alumni communications system in place, and the message came to me that I could probably help make this happen!! And as most of you know, with the help of Sao Ying Sita (or better known as Ying Ying Thaike in MEHS), the first MEHSA newsletter was published in 1988. Addresses of over 300 alumni overseas (out of Burma) were collected, and the newsletter was received with an overwhelming response. Subsequently, a directory and two other newsletters were distributed, with continued support from the readers, even as of last December (1997)..... but due to lack of help, and the editor’s sole handiwork, the project came to a close after the 1991 issue.
But the spirit is still alive!!! We are all aware (and that includes Mrs. Logie) that there is definitely something special about ourselves, and our affiliation with our beloved school! Our alumni population can be found all over the globe, and we know that MEHS students have a soft spot for their fellow schoolmates and teachers. Get-togethers are held frequently, recent arrivals from the ‘old country’ often receive helpful hints and assistance, and alumni support rises to the occasion when the need is there. But now, we have created this website for you, so that everyone can contribute their share of news, use this as a medium to contact long-lost schoolmates, and make inquiries about your teachers and classmates....
As we were brainstorming about this project, we also decided on some ground rules, as we would like to keep this as a “fun” place to visit .... as such, these are some preliminary ideas that we would like to propose:
We are going to rely on each and everyone of you to help make this website a success, so your comments on the website are especially welcome as we go through the developmental stage. At this time, we would like you to spread the word, so that all MEHS Alumni can log in and register. Although Mrs. Logie is unable to access the website, we plan to mail her the contents from time to time. Please let us hear from you!! and thanks so much for your patience !!
Editor's Note: On December 15, 1999, Juliet Teoh passed away peacefully. This web site is dedicated to her memory.
