Mrs. Rachael Chan
|
|
Mrs. Rachael Chan originally started teaching in MEHS around 1935. At
that time she was known as Miss Rachael Aaron and taught the 4th.
Standard. The principal at the time was an American lady and Mrs. Logie
was a teacher at the school. In April 1942, at the beginning of the
Japanese invasion of Burma, she married Mr. Charles Chan and they
immediately trekked out of Burma through the Hukawng Valley to India.
After the war Mrs. Chan returned to Burma and in 1950 while enrolling her eldest daughter in MEHS she was asked by Mrs. Logie, then the principal, if she would come back and teach. Mrs. Chan agreed and taught Standard 4A from 1950 till 1967 when she stopped because MEHS had become SHS(1) Dagon and the curriculum was completely in Burmese. At the end of 1967 she migrated with her family to England where she taught in a Jewish school in Clapton, a suburb of London. She and her husband left England at the end of 1971 for the United States, where she lives in California with her daughter Wendy and family. If anyone wants to contact her, her address is: Mrs. Rachael ChanI'm sure she would appreciate hearing from her former students. Sheldon Battle May 14, 1999

Mrs. Chan was my CLASSROOM TEACHER for STD IV at The MEHS, Yangon, Myanmar. I remember being very busy learning, studying and taking examinations all year. In addition, I was enrolled in a 'Special Summer Classes', which prepared me to SKIP STD V and advanced on to STD VI, upon completion and passing of STD IV. This enabled me to attend The Yangon Arts and Sciences University, Institute Of Economics School Of Business, one year earlier, majoring in Commerce and Mathematics/Statistics. I want to say, "THANKS!!!".. for letting me become 'Head Of The Class' STD I to STD X, MEHS. My BEST wishes to Mrs. Chan and her Family.
Sincerely, |
